As a designer and an avid runner (I’ve racked up over 900 miles on my Nike+ running profile) I immediately began thinking of design projects that would show Bostonians that we love them and are praying for them. I knew that if I was thinking of how to show love through design, other designers must have been thinking the same thing…
New Yorkers don’t regularly show much love for Bostonians, but after the tragedy yesterday “the illuminator group” (link here) used their mobile propaganda unit to project a giant NY Loves B on the side of the Brooklyn Academy of Music. They continued on with a very poignant Martin Luther King Jr. quote, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that.” MLK Jr., by the way, is himself quoting Jesus of Nazareth.
All of this “Illuminator Group” love for Boston is pretty interesting considering that the mission of “The Illuminator” group is to:
Smash the myths of the information industry and shine a light on the urgent issues of our time.
Generally speaking “The Illuminator” group creates defiant acts of “advertising” to expose the disproportion of wealth in our society. I’m grateful to live in a nation where tragedy can bring love out of a group dedicated to “smashing” myths … and I’m grateful to live in a nation that still decides to use their gifts to love others in difficult times.
May the U.S. continue to be full of lovers…
